Each woman seeking care at the Hollywood Birth Center is carefully screened for any health problems or potential problems. Ideally she should begin prenatal care as soon as pregnancy is suspected. We only accept women who are low risk, healthy, do not smoke or consume alcohol, and do not use recreational drugs. For the health and safety of mother and baby, each mother is expected to breastfeed so long as it is medically possible.

Prenatal Visits
Prenatal visits are scheduled every four weeks up to twenty-eight weeks gestation, every two weeks up to thirty-six weeks gestation, and every week thereafter until birth. All clients must have a physical and consultation with one of our back-up physicians. Each 45 minute visit consists of checking your weight, urine, blood pressure and pulse with at least 30 minutes spent with the midwife. We will listen to your baby's heart rate as early in the pregnancy as possible. All your questions and concerns will be addressed during your visits. If a complaint or complications should arise during your pregnancy, your midwife will consult with the center's obstetrician/consultant.

Labor & Birth
During active labor, you and your family will be provided with the birthing suite of your choice. Each of our suites includes a private bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. You will be free to walk about the center and eat and drink to your desire. Our staff members will do whatever they can to help you achieve the environment you have planned. CHEMICAL MEDICATIONS FOR PAIN ARE NOT AVAILABLE. We offer natural childbirth with the loving support you will need to birth naturally. There is no mandatory position for birth. Stirrups or restraints will not be used, We offer the option of a water-birth or hydrotherapy during labor and delivery. Mothers will remain in their suite through the birth and post-partum period.

Post-partum Care
Our birth center is an out-patient center. Each family will be discharged within 4-6 hours after the birth as long as mom and baby are happy and healthy. Each family will be visited 24-36 hours after their departure, at the mother's home. A third day home visit will be done by a birth center staff. At each post-partum visit the midwife will assess mom and baby's health and well-being as well as assist with breast-feeding and newborn care. Included in your care is an in office visit at 2 and 6 weeks.
